2026 RAKSHA BANDHAN ~ SURAKSHA BANDHAN Celebrated Across BHARAT

The 5th annual INDUSEM Raksha Bandhan – Suraksha Bandhan was celebrated across Bharat on 28 August 2026, aligning with the nation’s observance of Raksha Bandhan. Leaders of the Emergency Medicine Association of India (EMA India) and the Academic College of Emergency Experts in India (ACEE), representing institutions from every corner of the country, marked this special day by tying rakhis to their patients – symbolizing their unwavering promise to protect, care for, and advocate for them 24/7.

Why Do We Celebrate Raksha Bandhan?

The festival traces its roots to the Mahabharata, where Draupadi tore a piece from her sari to wrap around Lord Krishna’s injured finger. In return, Krishna vowed to protect her—and he fulfilled that promise. This timeless gesture of protection inspires the INDUSEM tradition of Suraksha Bandhan, highlighting the sacred bond between physicians and patients.

Every year, Emergency Medicine leaders across ACEE and EMA India honor this principle, reaffirming their commitment to stand by those they serve. INDUSEM extends heartfelt gratitude to its leaders throughout Bharat for observing Raksha Bandhan – Suraksha Bandhan in a spirit of unity, compassion, and non?violence, reflecting the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

“INDUSEM Raksha Bandhan – Suraksha Bandhan is a historic celebration launched in 2022 to highlight the indispensable role played by Emergency Physicians across India, especially during the monumental challenges of the COVID?19 pandemic. The Emergency Department’s Suraksha perimeter served as a vital entry point—where 24/7 emergency care was delivered by courageous physicians who acted as soldiers and warriors in the fight against COVID.

Emergency Medicine Specialists who championed this initiative tied rakhis to their patients and colleagues, celebrating a specialty that assures round?the?clock emergency care delivered by Government?recognized, residency?trained MD/DNB Emergency Medicine educators and specialists. Five years on, Raksha Bandhan-Suraksha Bandhan has grown into an annual Utsav observed across Emergency Departments nationwide.

It is a proud moment for the Emergency Medicine fraternity and its specialists. I am proud of them,” said Dr. Galwankar.
